Poupees russes, matriochka, poupees gigognes
All three names describe the same object: a lathe-turned linden figure that opens to reveal a smaller one inside. Poupee gigogne is the older French term for any nesting figure and still turns up in crosswords; matriochka is the transliterated Russian name and the one collectors use.
