Buying Russian nesting dolls in Germany
Germany is our largest market, and for a simple reason: the sets sold in German souvenir shops and Christmas markets are overwhelmingly printed imports, while a workshop-direct hand-painted set costs less.

What you are usually offered in Germany
Walk through a Christmas market in Berlin, Nuremberg or Cologne and you will find stalls of Matroschka figures at EUR 25 to EUR 60. Nearly all are machine-blanked and decal-printed, often not even from Russia or Ukraine. Hold two of them side by side: if the two faces are pixel-identical, you are looking at a transfer print under lacquer, not brushwork.
Every set we ship is turned from seasoned linden (Lindenholz), primed with potato starch, painted freehand and lacquered three to five times. Faces differ slightly from doll to doll within one set, because a person painted them.
Delivery to German addresses
Parcels leave Kyiv within one to two business days, travel by tracked priority airmail and are handed to Deutsche Post / DHL at the border. Most German addresses receive in six to ten business days. Because Germany is in the European Union, your parcel clears customs inside the Union, so there is no import VAT, no DHL handling fee and no surprise invoice on the doorstep.
What German buyers order
Two patterns dominate. Collectors buy the larger Semenov-style sets, 10 and 15 pieces, where the painting quality is easiest to judge. Families and kindergartens buy unpainted linden blanks (Rohlinge zum Bemalen) by the box, because a blank set is the single best rainy-afternoon craft project for a child who has outgrown colouring books.
Customs, VAT and import charges
Your order clears customs inside the European Union, so there is nothing extra to pay when the parcel reaches your door. No handling fee, no surprise invoice from the courier.

Questions from buyers in Germany
Where can I buy a real Russian Matroschka in Germany?+
Order workshop-direct rather than from a market stall. We ship hand-painted linden sets from Kyiv to any German address in six to ten business days, shipping included and insured, with no customs charge because Germany is inside the EU.
Do I have to pay customs or import VAT on delivery in Germany?+
No. Orders to Germany clear customs inside the European Union, so there is nothing further to pay when Deutsche Post or DHL delivers the parcel.
Can I buy unpainted Matroschka blanks in Germany?+
Yes. Our blank linden sets ship to Germany on the same terms as painted ones. They are raw, sanded, untreated lime wood and take gouache, acrylic and watercolour equally well.
How much does a hand-painted set cost delivered to Germany?+
Prices run from about EUR 7 for a 3-piece miniature to several hundred euros for a 20-piece collector tower. Shipping to Germany is included in the price shown; the minimum order is EUR 250.
